Android Auto does not give you access to all applications on your phone, for a good reason. Google does not want to distract your attention while on the road, so you have made strict guidelines for the types of application developers that you can provide on the information and entertainment screen in your car. However, the company is expanding the list of gradually supported application categories.
Near the end of last year, Google extended support for weather applications in the experimental version, allowing users to see weather information related to their current location or path. Now, the company has Declare Finally, weather applications graduated from Beta, and any developer can spread the weather applications for Android Auto, as long as they meet Google Quality. In addition, the company recently added support for games in the experimental version 9to5googleAndroid Auto will soon support two other categories: browser applications and video applications.
In the Blog highlighting the experiences of the upcoming car applications, Google says video applications “will be supported on Android Auto, starting with Android 16 phones on the specific compatible cars.” As expected, video playback will only work when you are stopping. Currently, Google has not shared any information about supporting the upcoming browser application. We expect the company to reveal more details closer to the effect later this year.
Along with the review of the browser and the App Video of the Android Auto system, Google plans to only present an audio mode for video applications on Android Automotive. This feature will be able to play audio for video applications while driving, allowing users to listen to their favorite podcasts on YouTube.
